Specific features of the disorder may include grimacing, tongue protrusion, lip smacking, puckering and pursing of the lips, and rapid eye blinking. Rapid movements of the patient’s limbs may also occur. In addition, patients prescribed Seroquel® may develop the rare, but life-threatening, neuroleptic malignant syndrome, which can be characterized by such symptoms as confused or altered consciousness, potentially serious changes in blood-pressure levels, rigid muscles, kidney problems, and autonomic imbalance. As with other atypical anti-psychotics, evidence also suggests a connection between the drug and the onset and development of diabetes. Diabetic coma can result from imbalances in blood sugar levels (such as abnormally low levels of sugar in the blood), and death can result in the most serious and tragic cases.
